RON14 Type21 General purpose Frigate

The first ship designed entirely by commercial designers to ever be built for the Royal Navy and also the first to be designed from the keel up as gas turbine powered. The initial design was, however, criticised for lack of armament and, from 1976, Exocet systems were fitted to seven of the ships. Ambuscade did not receive hers until 1983.

RON16 Type 42 Batch 3 DDG
£4.50The Type 42s were built as air-defence destroyers and were the first to have gas turbine propulsion. The Batch 3 ships capitalised on experience in the Falklands War and the design was stretched to improve sea-keeping and economy and the internal design was also changed.

RON18 ‘Ton’ Class MCMV
£3.50The Ton Class MCMVs were built in the 1950s and were employed as both Minesweepers and specialised Minehunters.
Two extra pieces are included in each pack of 3 vessels to convert the model to the Minehunter role.
The class included HM Ships Bronington, Hubberston, Brereton, Bossington, Iveston, Brinton, Kedleston, Kellington, Nurton, Sheraton, Maxton, in the Minesweeper class.
HM Ships Cuxton, Upton, Soberton, Crichton,Wotton, Glaserton, in the Minehunter role.
More have been handed over to other navies including Argentina. -
RON19 Farnella Class MCMV
£3.50A part of the STUFT programme for the Falklands War in 1982, a number of trawlers were converted for the MCMV role. Among these were the ‘Ella’ Class of trawlers, including Farnella and Junella.
The models can, of coures, be used as ordinary trawlers – if there is such a thing!

RON23 Conqueror Class SSN
£2.50More properly known as the Churchill or Valiant Class of submarine. We have used the name ‘Conqueror’ Class as this boat was the one that successfully engaged and sank the ARA General Belgrano in 1982. The class was the first all-British nuclear-powered submarines and were built between 1966-70.

RON25 Type 45 DDG (Daring Class)
£5.00The Royal Navys’ newest Destroyer type. Should have been a class of 12 ships but, as usual, defence cuts have put paid to 6 of the class. The design makes extensive use of stealth techniques to reduce radar signature. They are designed with a 25 year service life, cuts and politicians permitting.

RON28 HMS Invincible
£8.00This is the Invincible in 1982, at the time of the Falklands War. Built originally as an ASW vessel, carrying helicopters, she completed trials in 1979 and joined the Fleet in 1981. The design proved itself in the Falklands War of 1982.
Phalanx was fitted as standard to HMS Illustrious, who joined her sister in the South Atlantic in August 1982, after the defeat of the Argentine forces, but, that will be a different model!
